Buzzacott selects Nomios for scalable wireless-first network

Buzzacott set out to adopt a wireless-first approach and modernise their network to support the way their teams work today. They selected Nomios as their strategic partner to design and deliver a scalable, future-ready LAN environment that aligns with their long-term vision.

The challenge

Buzzacott wanted to adopt a wireless-first approach for LAN access. Their previous provider had assured them their existing infrastructure could support this transition. Acting on this advice, Buzzacott rolled out Wi-Fi first across the business.

However, the rollout quickly exposed major issues. Frequent Wi-Fi black spots were impacting VIP users and executives and the poor wireless experience led to user frustration and complaints. Already under pressure with other priorities, the IT function could not dedicate time to the design, implementation, and ongoing support required. The situation was compounded by urgent timescales caused by unforeseen change, alongside a lack of confidence in the current partner’s expertise and response times.

It became clear that Buzzacott needed a new partner who could take ownership, resolve issues quickly, and provide a network fit for modern working and future growth.

Nomios’ approach

Nomios partnered with Buzzacott to identify the root causes of poor performance and deliver a complete LAN access refresh. The Nomios team worked directly with the CIO and the wider team to review the network end-to-end, identifying limitations and presenting strategic options.

Simply replacing the access points would not have guaranteed a resolution, as bottlenecks could still exist within the switching infrastructure. Given that the equipment was due for refresh within a year, it was deemed logical to refresh the full LAN stack. This ensured the investment addressed the problem in its entirety, eliminating the risk of ongoing issues and providing a clean foundation for the future.

The project was fast-tracked with design work carried out in parallel to hardware delivery. The changeover was scheduled across a weekend to minimise disruption, with Nomios consultants onsite during deployment and present on the first live day to support users.

The full project was delivered in approximately three months, including structured cabling, both high-level and low-level design, and pre-staging. Post installation surveys validated performance and coverage, before the network was handed over to the Nomios Managed Service for ongoing monitoring and optimisation.
