Modernising Network Infrastructure for a Global Communications Provider
Wavecrest, a global managed voice services provider, partnered with Nomios to modernise its network infrastructure and improve resilience across its international operations. Through a carefully phased migration to Juniper-based routing and firewall solutions, Nomios delivered a seamless transition with minimal disruption, ensuring continued service availability throughout.
The Challenge
Wavecrest needed to modernise their network by replacing legacy BGP routers and firewalls to improve resilience, scalability and long-term supportability.
The environment included both internal and externally facing firewalls, with multiple live networks that could not tolerate significant downtime. The migration presented several technical challenges. Services needed to remain operational throughout, requiring a phased approach and temporary network configurations.
In addition, Wavecrest’s use of a bespoke VRRP implementation alongside BGP routing introduced interoperability risks when integrating with new Juniper infrastructure.
Nomios Approach
Wavecrest engaged Nomios based on our strong technical credentials and experience delivering complex network transformations.
Nomios designed a staged migration strategy, building and deploying four firewalls and working closely with the customer to transition traffic one network at a time. This approach reduced risk, maintained service continuity and allowed for controlled validation at each stage.
Throughout the programme, Nomios engineers were highly engaged, providing hands-on guidance and rapid responses to questions. This level of support proved critical during an unexpected overnight incident.
Nomios were extremely hands-on throughout the project. Their engineers were calm, knowledgeable and fully engaged, even during an out-of-hours incident, which gave us real confidence in both the solution and the team supporting it.”

The Outcome
From the customer’s perspective, the project was a clear success. All cutovers were completed successfully, and the new Juniper-based routing and firewall infrastructure delivered the resilience and stability they were looking for.
Since the project completed, Wavecrest has experienced occasional misconfiguration issues as their internal team continues to build familiarity with MX routers and firewall technologies. Nomios has continued to support them post-implementation, resolving issues quickly and sharing knowledge to help Wavecrest’s engineers understand the cause of problems and how to avoid them in future.
Customer Impact
Wavecrest was particularly impressed with how Nomios managed risk, communicated clearly throughout, and maintained control even when unexpected issues arose.
Overall, the engagement is described as a very positive experience, with Nomios seen not just as a systems integrator, but as a trusted advisor. The project laid the foundation for a resilient network and a strong, ongoing relationship built on trust and expertise.
Nomios delivered exactly what we were looking for - a reliable solution, a smooth transition, and a partner we could trust. Their professionalism and ongoing support have made them a valued long-term partner for us.”
